Harry Potter Recs: Snarry

What I rec: As the warning states below, my Harry Potter recs are all Snarry (Severus Snape / Harry Potter) slash. I do not read or rec chan. The earliest any relationship starts in the following fics is seventeen, though I more prefer post-Hogwarts or older-age AUs. Do not follow the links if you dislike or disapprove of this pairing.

Very Important! All of these focus on the Harry/Snape pairing. Unless otherwise stated, these stories are ADULTS ONLY / NC17. No chan fic, however! (I prefer post-Hogwarts, although occasionally read 7th year, too)

Quid Pro Quo One of Aucta Sinista's best works. Harry is poisoned and requests Snape's help.

What Dire Offence A lovely piece of work of a perfect length. Returning to Hogwarts as a teacher has Harry feeling disoriented. Snape's return from sabbatical brings a strange sense of comfort and marks the beginning of a unique friendship.

Potion Commotion An incredibly amusing tale of crooked intentions, false love potions, and attempts to counter the pursuit of an unwanted powerful wizard by pretending to be claimed by another.

The Living Years An unusual story that I had no expectation of particularly liking, the evolution of plot and character growth worked brilliantly. And really, I've never cared for adults-turned/cursed-to-childhood plot elements no matter the fandom, but the idea worked here. Turned out far better than I ever expected.

Scratch | The Holly and the Ivy | This Thing of Darkness Required reading of Aucta Sinista's work and any snarry fan. Brilliant characterization, full of plot, plot, and more plot. Plenty of complications, snark, angst, and joy. Always nice to see a strong Harry and a bit of his protective, posessive side.

Beech Hall | Without Ceremony Yet more terrific work by Miss Sinista! Harry has a new house guest, Dumbledore insists Snape needs a safe haven.

A Choriambic Progression Beautifully done progression of plot. Harry's struggles with maturing are refreshingly realistic. Plenty of angst and some disturbing imagry. One of the best stories out there.

Courtship of Harry Potter, The Simply an enjoyable read. Old Wizarding coming-of-age tradition offers intriguing possibilities.

Sunrises | Happily Ever After Voldemort's gone, Snape finally gets the DADA position (in addition to his Potions classes), and Harry's at loose ends. Dumbledore asks Harry to assist Professor Snape with his classes, a questionable decision, at best. I enjoyed the characterizations within and the story flow. I think the first story is the best, as I felt a strange turn near the end of HEA, but read the pair!

A Nick in Time | Growing Pains I only recently read this duet and can't believe I'd waited so long to do so. Then again, the setup is not one that tends to attract me - adult characters have been turned into children (in the first story). But this is superbly written. When seven-year-olds Harry and Severus are found one morning shortly after Christmas, no one knows what to think. In the months during which most of the Wizarding world attempts to come up with a way to return things to normal, several friendships blossom. Growing Pains deals with Harry and Severus's return to adulthood and the challenges of integrating their many months of childhood with all they used to take for granted in their present lives. Wonderful Hermione and Ron roles.

Barmy I'm a sucker for amnesia fics, and this one's very interestingly written.

Everybody's Fool A jaded Harry promises himself that he'll never again play the fool in love. I found myself pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed this. Past Draco/Harry, hints of Snape/Remus, this Snarry establishes an interesting relationship before moving further into something more intimate. Lots of magic, reworking the wards of Hogwarts, as well makes for a wonderful plot. NC-17

Conduits of Sorcery Why did I wait so long to read this? This is a great Snarry fic full of intrigue, interesting magic, a Triwizard Tournament... Harry and Severus work together to figure out what Lucius is up to. (Also instances of Lucius/Severus.) NC-17

Better Late Than Never My addiction, amnesia fic! ^_^ A cursed letter sets Harry back several years, back to a time when he felt only aversion for Severus. So how do we rebuild the relationship?

The Second Time Around Snape has amnesia this time. The characterization is absolutely lovely. I love the slow development and Snape's confusion... and McGonagall's interferences.

Dark Chocolate Well fuck. Hell of a story. I was biting my nails trying to figure out what all was going on. Very interesting setup and lots of angst and drama and just so good! Be sure to read the sequel, too. White Chocolate NC-17

The Fourth Year Post-war, Severus is under arrest in the home of none other than Harry Potter. The characterization, the progress, the voices... they're simply wonderful!

Cursed With a Kiss This was fabulous! Not terribly long, but certainly not short. This lovely piece involves Harry being seperated from his comatose body and needing a place for his soul to take refuge until they can figure things out... Unfortunately for Snape, he's basically the only choice for a haven. Interesting concept done with great care and wonderful voices!

Acts of Will A darker story with kind of a creepy air. Post-war, everyone thinks Snape is dead; Harry knows better and is haunted by this and much more. Interesting interpretation of the Department of Mysteries, good dark-but-not-too-dark Harry, and Snape develops quite nicely. NC-17

Tactical Invitation Nice, fairly short story. When Harry is offered a certain position, Severus quits, trying to avoid The Boy Who Lived. Sort of. Avoidence certainly isn't working too well.

Every Wand I've Ever Sold This made me want to cry a time or two, though it's more bittersweet than hardcore angst. For some reason, no one but Harry remembers the names of Harry Potter and Voldemort. That is, until Snape reappears and sparks some hope.

Somewhere Behind the Morning Kind of a bizarre, but quite good, story. Is Severus going crazy? Harry is a mind-healer and Minerva calls him in for some help. I adore the snippet of portrait!Dumbledore.

What Friends Are For Amusing tale where Severus is being pursued by a new professor, which makes both Harry and Severus reconsider their friendship. (Not HBP compliant. Post-Hogwarts.)

Dumbledore's Folly No Snarry rec list would be complete without this. Dumbledore has left both Snape and Harry his estate. Snape wants to sell it, Harry wants to keep it. Complicated Wizarding laws insist on a courtship to work things out. NC-17

Bitten I like this vampire story basically because neither Snape nor Harry is the bloodsucker. Harry finds himself caught up in a venture to transport an unusual relative back to his homeland. NC-17

Those Shrouded in Dim Light This is exactly what I've wanted to see more of in fic. In this Harry's time with the Dursley's has had serious (realistic) detrimental effects. Living at least half of his life confined to a cupboard, Harry knows next to nothing about the world, and this author captures this dang well. He's not sure what things mean, how to read people, or how to act... everyone thinks he's a squib. The only one he's remotely comfortable with after being brought to Hogwarts to evaluate his magical ability is Severus Snape, someone who's dour and showing dislike -- familiar, far more predictable than kindness. This is not about kink or sex or pity-fest. Not underage, either, though the sexual implications (in final chapter) are not long after Harry reaches adulthood in the Wizarding world.

The Truth of Legends AU. Rating: PG. Dragons. ^_^ Magical AU.

Learning to Speak Almost anything I found this year in the Snarry games was amazing. This is post-war where Snape and Harry inadvertantly began exchanging letters. The development of the relationship is fabulous, somewhat angsty, and ends up beautifully. Rating: PG-13.

The Sleeping Prince Yeyz, amnesia! The Golden Trio has a spell to try to revive Snape (post DH; EWE). The results are... interesting. A bit of age-regression, my beloved amnesia, and sexual tension. Mild R.

For Services Rendered Parseltongue! Another love of mine. Snape's got a three-headed snake but has issues collecting eggs for the potion he's making. This means recruiting Potter... and the payment isn't quite what he'd expected. Wartime story though post-Hogwarts. NC-17

Clipped Wings It took me a long time to get around to reading this. It's post-war, AU, and rather a dim disutopia. Wizards have gone into hiding, been reprogrammed, or died. Harry Potter slips under the radar thanks to some help from Dudley. When he sees Snape being auctioned off, he can't let his former professor go. Wonderful crow symbology in play. (I'm a crow nut.) NC-17

Property Rites What a hoot! Harry works for the Ministy and the Regulation of Resident Non-Embodied Persons. Just so happens that a troublesome ghost he needs to deal with is one Cassandra Prince. NC-17.

A Time to Forget Post-DH and epilogue compliant! The Potter children are at Hogwarts, there's been a divorce, and Harry's been hired to temporarily take over the DADA position. Wandering the castle one night, Harry comes across something completely unexpected. Temporary age- regression in the sense of decades-long amnesia.

Made-Up Lullaby #43 I have a weakness for kid/baby fic, but I hate mpreg. So when I found out that this is not mpreg...! Fabulous. Post-war, Harry and Severus still have a lot of problems, but an usual situation brings them together to figure out what the hell is going on. NC-17.

That Place in the Dark DementorDelta is a fabulous author. This story has a creepy curse in it. Snape's the victim and his savior is no other than Mr. Potter. Can he ever get rid of him? I like the OC in here who plays a part but doesn't steal the scenes. Adult.

Imaginis Aurors, children in danger, bookshop, a tip jar, and a portrait? Fabulously creative. Harry's having issues with being an Auror, Charlie is Harry's roommate, Severus owns a bookstore, and there's something fishy going on. Great characterization, lots of characters. Oh, and did I mention the portrait of Regulus Black? NC-17.

Getting Familiar One of my new favorites. Post-DH but EWE. Snape can't just go off without knowing what happens, particularly when Harry's in the habit of getting into trouble. And Skeeter's back up to her old tricks. How is Snape slipping by unnoticed? He has an intriguing Animagus form. NC-17.

Her Eyes Post-DH, EWE. Disturbing and well-written. Bellatrix Lestrange causes more than a little damage to one Harry Potter. In the aftermath of some serious torture, Snape's the only one who can heal the wounds.

A Whole Heart A guilty pleasure - sick and comfort. Harry's training to become a mediwizard at Hogwarts when a horrible influenza is going around. Of course, being who he is, Harry pushes too hard and forgets to ask for help. NC-17.

Gladly Beyond Any Experience No DH. Absolutely wonderful fic! I love the characters, the premise, and the plot. Yeah, everything. Sixteen years after the war, Harry is divorced and has primary custody of his teenage daughter. Snape has just been found in Canada and is brought to England in anticipation of his trial. But that's just the frame, the real story is the journey through memories and both men's need to negociate what lies within their hearts and minds. Lengthy, but still easy to finish in one sitting. NC-17 And sequel (short fic long after the original), Nobody, Not Even the Rain .

Puzzled Together Eee! A medium length piece from the past Snarry hols. Epilogue compliant (sans Snape's death) and set some time into the future. Harry's at a new stage in his life, his son's around for the hols, and Snape is present. Then a puzzle box turns up and trouble arises. NC- 17

Red Right Hand Brilliant. EWE I love creative curses. And gawd, the details and later breaking of this curse is amazing. Long, a fair bit of angsty-light drama, and political intrigue, we've also got some lovely crazy Potter. Seriously, one of my favorite parts is: Under the flickering streetlamp, snowflakes settled in Potter's dark mop of hair. A bright red cape streamed heroically behind him, flapping on a wandless wind charm. Underneath it the brat wore nothing but scarlet long-johns covered in gaudy gold lightning bolts. That's only one part of the story, but it's just wonderful. Settle in for an enjoyable read! NC-17

Requiem at Dusk Oh bloody frigging hell this story is amazing. Incredible. Fucking awesome. Good god, why are you still here? Oh, right, info. Mythology like whoa, the story almost exclusively takes place in the underworld. Lengthy journey and so frigging incredible. DH compliant. Albus Serverus has died, an incident apparently more than a few people Beneathworld anticipated. Harry will do anything to get his son back. Serverus and a few others play a key role in helping him. Gawd this story is good. NC- 17

Promises to Keep NC-17 Another entry for the Snarry Games. What promises should you keep? DH compliant but EWE (and no Snape death). The story centers around Snape's trial, and Harry's determination to act as counsel and prove Snape's innocence. Disagreements and tension, of course, fill their lives and matters of trust are of upmost importance.

Echoes (1) , Part two DH & epilogue compliant! NC17 I really like having the kids in stories now... Herein, Harry and company find something strange about the latest craze of perfumes, colonge, and soaps. Who's T. Spellman and how did he get those memories bottled? ^_^

If This be Error NC17 Oh screwed-up bondings... Of course Harry's going to fuck up the ritual to create an oath of fealty! Of course they'll end up married! Yes, it's fandom trope, but this is one of the good ones. AU from book six.

Of Cabbages and Kings DH but EWE; NC17 Interesting side-effects of magic and an unintended transfer of sorts. For some reason Harry has next to no energy after the war and sleeps more often than not. When he discovers Snape's still alive... well, he sees where his energy went, but the question is why and how do they fix things?

Sanctum Sanctorum Brilliant. Witling corageously notes that she isn't fully familiar with HP-verse, though you'd be hard-pressed to really know it. Seems like probably full details through GoF are acknowledged, though Occlumency and related material is important here. The characterization is amazing, Snape is so very recognizable. Potter's flat was in something called a "tower block," which was apparently a kind of aboveground dungeon for the containment of the criminally insane. A sudden attack has robbed Harry Potter of his magic and he is relocated to a Muggle location in hopes of keeping off the radar. Meanwhile the war is wearing hard on everyone and draining supplies.
"Unless you have some deep understanding of the mind of You-Know-Who, or a secret store of vetiver, joyfruit brandy, or cannabis seed, or perhaps a larder crammed full of hams and jelly, I'm afraid the matter is out of your hands." Snape paused. Potter was looking at him oddly. "What?"
"I don't know about the rest of it," Potter said, "but I know where to get cannabis."

The (Un)Professional Fabulous. This fic features Hitman!Harry and great action scenes with all sorts of fun details. Dialogue often snappy, which I'm still crediting the author although a film script provides some dialogue. (Having never seen the film, I can't tell what's direct.) Eight years ago, Harry Potter fell off the radar of most of the Wizarding World. A ten-year anniversary at Hogwarts brings him back in when he's got a job to take care of.
